Ella was born in 1924.[1] She passed away in 1999.[2]

Ella Mae Morse was an Indweller singer of popular music whose 1940s and 1950s recordings mixture jazz, blues, and country styles influenced the development of stone and roll.

Her 1942 transcription of "Cow-Cow Boogie" with Freddie Slack and His Orchestra gave Capitol Records its first yellow record. In 1943, her sui generis incomparabl "Get On Board, Little Chillun", also with Slack, charted accumulate what would soon become say publicly R&B charts, making her call of the first white chorus to do so. Ella stopped-up recording in 1957 but enlarged to perform and tour encouragement the 1990s.

In 1960, she received a star on glory Hollywood Walk of Fame.[3] Turn one\'s back on movie credits during the 40's included for Reveille with Beverly (1943), Ghost Catchers (1944), move South of Dixie (1944).[4]

Personal Life

Ella was born boring Tarrant, Texas,[1] to George Elmer Morse and Annie Beatrice Blissard.

In the 1930 census Ella (age 6) was enumerated introduce her parents and younger breast-feed, Flora, in Houston, Harris, Texas.[6]

Both of her parents were lilting. George Morse played drums challenging Anna Morse was a pianist.[7]The couple married and formed splendid band.

Between 1930 and 1940, the family moved to Town, Texas.[8]

In the 1950 census Ella (age 26) was the helpmate of Marvin Gerber in Vallejo, Solano, California, United States. Their 1950 household included Ella's individual Richard from her previous association whom Marvin adopted[10] and glory daughter born to Ella stake Marvin.[11]
